I spent the weekend away.
I almost needed it.
I always forget how much I like Modesto until leave for a few days.
Most people would say I am crazy. Who doesn't fall in love with San Fransisco? I have never left my heart there. I leave my curiosity, but after four days I am ready to return to what I know.
A world where there is no good public transportation. parks that are not the "cool" hang out spots, and the subtle silence that hits the town every night. Here there are no buses that seem they are going to run you over even when you have the right of way, no girls yelling at each other until someone shouts "shut the fuck up," and the lack of tourists are almost amazing.
I missed the fact that you can spend a three dollars and be full for the day, the fact that the streets are bare after 6 p.m. and the fact that everything closes early, and the fact that my neighborhood has a newsletter every month.
There is something amazing about a town with a lack of a certain charm, but the people always seem to be able to bring it back.
Let the people bring something new and amazing.
Let's start our own Hamburger Eyes.
Let's get out work seen and not be afraid to talk to the people that own the galleries.
Let's be heard.
Let's make Modesto our favorite urban environment.
It certainly is a lot easier to not have to drive or take the train...
